MWFOA Newsletter - April 7

April 7, 2017

Greetings MWFOA members,

I hope that this message finds you all well and looking forward to seeing the sunshine sometime soon this spring!  Believe it or not, football season is not that far away, and your Executive Board has been working hard to make this upcoming season a success.

When the calendar changes to April each year, the Board also changes over to include those officers elected the previous fall.  This year, the Board welcomes a new member, Don DeMello, in the role of Secretary, as well as a current member in a new role, myself as your new President.

This off-season has also brought about a change in the role of MWFOA Commissioner.  Randy Westbrook has elected to resign his position as Commissioner due to personal reasons.  We greatly appreciate all that he has done for the Association in this role, and while he has not determined whether or not he will officiate this fall, I would like to recognize him for his dedication to our Association and the officiating profession.  If he does choose to retire completely from officiating this fall, his leadership, commitment, and professionalism will be dearly missed.  I selfishly hope that he will elect to stick around for many years to come!

As a result of his resignation from the Commissioner role, my first duty as your new President is to appoint Cliff Filley as Interim Commissioner.  Cliff has worked hard to develop rapport with our client schools and our membership for many years as the MWFOA President, and I have no doubt that he will be able to serve in this new capacity for the remainder of Randy’s term until a complete Commissioner search can be conducted.  Randy was in the middle of a three-year term, which would have expired at the end of the 2018 season.

The Board has been meeting regularly this off-season, and will continue to do so.  If you have items that you feel the Board should consider, please don’t hesitate to forward them to your Member-at-Large, David Rockhold at .  Our next Board meeting is scheduled for April 22, 2017.

As usual, we are continuing to ask members to recruit friends and family members to join our association and enter the ranks of officiating.  The OSAA/OAOA recognize that membership in officiating associations is down almost across the board in Oregon.  In order to effectively serve our client schools, we must work hard to find more interested men and women to officiate.  For those of you who are officiating spring or summer sports, please ask those whom you are officiating with to consider trying football this fall!

I am looking forward to another great season – hope you are, too!

Best regards,

Aaron Seifer

MWFOA President
